Getting started

Where is Next Eye after I open it?

It lives next to the clock on the Windows taskbar (you may need the small arrow to see the icon). Click the icon to open its window; right-click it to quit. Closing or minimising the window keeps Next Eye running.

How do I use it in VR?

Put on your headset and look at your left wrist: the watch appears. Twist your wrist to open the drawer with every button. The welcome tour shows the basics the first time; watch it again from Settings › General › Welcome tour.

Does it start with SteamVR?

Yes, by default. Turn it off in Settings › General › Launch with SteamVR, or in the desktop window. When SteamVR closes, Next Eye closes with it.

Which headsets work?

Any headset that runs SteamVR: Valve Index, HTC Vive, Meta Quest (Link, Air Link, Virtual Desktop, Steam Link), PICO (PICO Connect), Windows Mixed Reality and others.

Screens and input

My clicks do nothing in one program.

That program is running as administrator, and Windows does not let normal programs click or type into it. Next Eye shows a warning when this happens. In the desktop window, choose Run as administrator › Restart.

Can I show a single window instead of a whole monitor?

Yes: on a screen's tab, choose the window icon and pick the program.

A screen got lost somewhere in the room.

Use the recentre button in the watch drawer to bring every screen back in front of you.

Presets

Tap P1–P9 to restore a layout; hold one to save your current screens there. Presets follow you: they are saved around where you look.

Integrations

Discord mute and deafen gestures

Next Eye presses shortcuts that Discord listens for. One-time setup: Settings › Integrations › Discord shortcuts › set up, then follow the steps on screen.

OBS

In OBS: Tools › WebSocket Server Settings › Enable WebSocket server. Then turn on OBS control in Settings › Live. No password to copy.

Twitch chat

Turn it on in Settings › Live and type your channel name. It is read-only and needs no login.

VRChat

Avatar parameters (screens open, keyboard, watch) are sent automatically when OSC is enabled in VRChat. The VRChat key on the VR keyboard sends text to the chatbox.

Performance

Turn on Settings › General › Performance monitor to see frame rate, reprojection, CPU, GPU, RAM and video memory above your watch. Throw the panel away to turn it off.

Language

Choose your language in Settings › General, in the desktop window, or on the first page of the welcome tour. Found a bad translation? Tell us — community corrections are welcome.

Sending your logs

Open the desktop window and choose Open logs folder, or go to %APPDATA%\Next Eye\logs. Attach the most recent file. Logs never contain window titles, what you type or what is on your screen.

Resetting everything

Quit Next Eye, delete the folder %APPDATA%\Next Eye, and start it again.

Uninstalling

Uninstall from your Steam library. To also remove settings and logs, delete %APPDATA%\Next Eye.
